I made this to kinda get out my art slump, it's disproportionate which really bothers me. But the colors and design still pop out, which makes up for the disproportion.

My piece is inspired by the 1500’s north European painting of a slaughter house. The reason why I chose the piece is it was sort of a grim depiction of what happens to the animal before we eat it. From the dead fish eyes of the cow to the plucked and hanged chickens, as population growth increased over centuries so has demand. To compensate for this, care for animals has declined and efficiency has risen meaning morals has taken a backseat when it comes to how livestock is raised. To represent this treatment I have made a disembodied head of a pig who has a look of soullessness, only reflecting back humanity’s folly. My hope for this piece is that it makes people think more about what they buy and consume, for there is always a story behind each and every meal depicting how it ended up on your dinner plate.
Tell me do you consider this cute? What if I told you that this stuffed animal of a cat is actually a demon from Japanese mythology called a "Bakeneko" they're known for being ruthless and hateful towards humans. Perspective on objects and things can be changed if knowledge is brought into the mix.
The unique idea that I incorporated into this two person project is the idea of using string as texture for the ocean
The source we used for this creation was basically a normal map that we wanted to make better |
